The temperatures in Washington, DC are invoking summer vibes as we patiently await the season’s official entrance in just a few weeks. While many residents are creating plans for the hot days and warm nights ahead, our team has been getting acquainted with the 2023 outdoor design trends. We asked each member of the team to share their favorites and we’ve rounded them up below. Here’s to summer.

Tommi, Junior Designer: Fire Pits
I live in Atlanta where the summer days can be taxing so summer nights here are my favorite. But, it’s not truly a summer night if there isn’t a fire pit. My favorite is a rectangular propane fire pit–it’s functional, durable so it lasts and it dresses up any outdoor conversation space.

Chelle, Senior Designer: Modular Kitchens
I love to cook for my friends so a modular kitchen is what I’m loving this summer. I used to think having an outdoor kitchen was expensive but it’s becoming more achievable with modular pieces. You buy what you need and make it your own instead of committing to an entire kitchen that overwhelmingly expensive.

Sameera, Senior Designer: Woven Textures
Summer isn’t my favorite season because I prefer coziness but I really love the way woven fabrics are being incorporated in outdoor design this year. From area rugs to throw pillows, it seems the standard outdoor accents are phasing out and textured, dimensional pieces are phasing in.

Jenna, Principal: Outdoor furniture that looks like it can dress up the inside
I was born in the summer so this is my season. This year, I’m head-over-heels in awe of the outdoor furniture that looks like it was schlepped outside from inside the home. High-quality outdoor furniture in 2023 feels as comfortable and plush as its appears and can withstand outdoor elements the way it could not before. I’m especially in love with outdoor stone dining tables, day beds and fully-upholstered seating.

If you’re not as intimate with the design world as we are, it may be difficult to envision the 2023 outdoor design trends we’ve shared so we’re sharing links below.
