01. Color Drenching
Color drenching is about committing to one color and using it in the whole room–this includes on the walls, ceiling, trim, and doors in a room. Color drenching creates a dramatic, cohesive look that makes a big statement and it can also make a room feel bigger. Notice in this photo with the white ceiling, you can instantly see where the walls and ceiling meet. When you color drench a room, it blurs the lines between the walls and ceiling which makes the space feel bigger.
How to Apply It In Your Home
If you want to try color drenching, I recommend starting in a small room like a powder room or home office. And don’t try beige or gray–instead, try something safe and elegant like navy blue. If you like the look, consider trying it in a larger space like a dining room or bedroom.
02. Sustainable Design
Sustainable design is all about choosing materials and furniture that reduce negative impacts on the planet. A few examples include reclaimed wood, natural stone like granite and marble and organic fabrics like cotton and linen.
How to Apply It In Your Home
A few ways you can incorporate sustainable design in your home is to purchase furniture made from the materials listed above. Buy a reclaimed wood coffee table, a jute area rug or linen curtains. You can also champion sustainable design in your home by incorporating energy efficient LED lights, maximizing natural light and using materials like paint and cleaning products with reduced VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). Most paint companies list the VOCs on the paint can but the best way to find out if the paint you’re buying has low VOCs is to ask the retailer directly.
03. Pattern Mixing
Pattern mixing requires stepping out of your comfort zone and pairing different prints and textures to create a lively, dynamic space. It’s about being playful but intentional with your choices because if it’s not done correctly, it can overwhelm the room.
How to Apply It In Your Home
Start by sticking to a cohesive color palette—this keeps the look intentional rather than chaotic–then mix scales. Scale is defined as the relative size and proportion of objects and furniture in a space. If you want to experiment with pattern mixing, try pairing a geometric rug with striped curtains and a floral throw pillow. This will help you achieve pattern mixing without overwhelming the space.
04. Vintage Finds
Vintage pieces are making a statement for their charm and their sustainability as vintage pieces are usually made of authentic materials. Incorporating vintage pieces adds character and tells a story in your home. You can score vintage finds at local thrift stores, estate sales and even Facebook Marketplace.
How to Apply It In Your Home
You can add vintage pieces to your home by starting with small items like a vintage wall mirror, vase or wall art. These smaller pieces make it easy to mix vintage decor with more modern furniture which creates a curated and intentionally designed look. Chairish is a great website to shop for vintage furniture and decor but I also recommend shopping local and visiting a vintage store near you.
05. Dedicated Wellness Spaces
Multi-functional spaces have been in style the last few years but dedicated wellness spaces will shake things up a bit in 2025. Wellness spaces will promote physical and mental well-being while reducing stress–and they’ll vary in size. Wellness spaces can be as small as a meditation corner in your living room and as big as a home gym.
How to Apply It In Your Home
Create a wellness space in your home by dedicating a corner of a room with a comfortable accent chair that’s your journaling nook. Your bathtub can also serve as a wellness space–adorn it with a group of candles to add softness to the space and turn on a soothing playlist or sound. If you have more space at home, dedicate a room for your wellness like a home gym, meditation room or yoga space. No matter which route you take, add elements that will ignite all of your senses. For colors, incorporate calming shades like sage green or soft beige to create a relaxing environment. Top it off by adding consider refreshing and relaxing scents like lavender and eucalyptus plus a playlist that suits the ambiance.
